District Liaisons serve as the Department’s strategic representatives across Idaho’s 44 counties, playing a critical role in shaping, coordinating, and advancing the state’s juvenile justice system. They serve as key connectors between the Department and community stakeholders, including elected officials, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement leaders, education partners, contracted service providers, juvenile probation and detention administrators, and advocacy organizations. Through intentional communication and collaboration, District Liaisons strengthen alignment among the Department, policy makers, and local entities, an essential component of effective, accountable, and responsive juvenile justice programming. Their work has a direct impact on policy implementation, system coordination, and community-based solutions.
District Liaisons actively partner with counties to design, expand, and sustain alternative interventions, prevention strategies, and diversion programs that reduce unnecessary commitments to state custody and promote timely, successful transitions back to the community following treatment. Their leadership supports outcomes that are developmentally appropriate, fiscally responsible, and rooted in evidence-based practices. They work with counties on the use and reporting of Juvenile Corrections Act funds and Tobacco Tax funds.
